CASHMERE — A weekend walk in the woods turned into a rope rescue for one four-legged pet after a slip outside Cashmere.

A Stanwood man was hiking with his dog Saturday about 2 miles south of the Camas Meadows Natural Area Preserve when the dog slid down a rock face, said Sgt. Jason Reinfeld with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.

The dog came to a stop about 75 feet down the slope.

The owner called 911 for help about 12:30 p.m. and then the sheriff’s office dispatched its High Angle Rope Rescue Team.

The specialty team aids in the rescue of people — or on occasion, pets — stuck or stranded on steep slopes or cliffs.

A rescuer was lowered by rope to the dog, and with an assist from a state Department of Natural Resources crew working in the area, the deputy and dog were pulled back to level ground, Reinfeld said.

The dog was returned to safety unharmed at about 3:20 p.m.
